Detail:

John 17 marks a pivotal moment in Jesus' ministry. In this High Priestly Prayer we (and the disciples) hear Jesus state in plain terms His reason for coming into the world, His power to save those the Father had given to Him, His intention to return to the Father soon, and His resolve to have His flock sustained through hardship by the truth He has taught them. Jesus' intention and resolve to save should give us hope and courage, as they remind us that our salvation is entirely based on Jesus' power and willingness to save...not on the quality and strength of our faith or our worthiness. It all begins and ends with Jesus...and thanks be to God for that!

ABOUT THIS SERIES: The Gospel of John was written "that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing in Him you may have life in His Name" (John 20.30). The Apostle John, as an eyewitness and close friend of Jesus', desires for us to behold His beauty, love, and glory, and believe in His power and willingness to being forgiveness and life. As we journey through the Gospel of John, we will behold the life, teachings, works, and ministry of Jesus, and will hear straight from Him who He said He is, so that we would more deeply put our hope and trust in the Man who is God.
