An Unstoppable Church is Born
At Pentecost (the 50th day after Easter) we see the disciples waiting, expectantly, for the Spirit helper Jesus had promised. They know they are in over their heads and that they don't have what it will take to accomplish the mission Jesus has given them. They know they are in need, big time, and their only good option is to wait for the Spirit to show up. And He does! In that moment, we see God's radical plan unfold...the provision of Himself, indwelling these weak, common people (just like you and I!) to empower the kind of supernatural love and service Jesus had called His followers to. If we go out and try to love and serve and follow the Great Commission out of our own strength, we will become exhausted and discouraged. But we have One inside of us who easily pushes past human weakness, spent resources, lack of wisdom, lowly reputation and influence, to seek and save the lost! ABOUT THIS SERIES: The Acts of the Apostles could be better titled, "The Acts of the Holy Spirit Through the Empowered Church," because it is the story of what God did through an unlikely group of people as the early church was born. God takes unlikely, weak, foolish, and unequipped people, and sends them on a mission to bring His Good News to those who are in need of it. But He doesn't send them out alone. He gives them His Holy Spirit, who unites them, strengthens them, equips them, and leads them in His wisdom to do an accomplish His will and work. Every believer is given His Spirit, and every believer is called to this mission, and together we will walk in the good works that He has prepared for us in this Unstoppable Mission: to see His glory and salvation proclaimed to the least, last, and lost from every tongue, tribe, and nation, even to the ends of the earth.
