James is often considered the "Proverbs of the New Testament." James wrote this letter primarily to Jewish converts to Christianity around 60 AD. They had been experiencing a lot of external trials and persecution, as well as internal temptation, and needed to be encouraged in their faith. James offers practical wisdom for the Christian life. In this sermon, James challenges the believers in their genuine faith by asking them to examine how they are looking at others, in particular the poor, orphan, and widow. Real faith will result in a genuine care and concern for those who have been going through tragedy and hardship. A "faith" that does not, is a worthless faith.
