In this sermon, we see that unconfessed or even unrecognized sin (blind spots) robs us of joy. We walk around life like there is a heavy weight upon us, a weight of guilt, shame, or feeling like a hypocrite. Confession brings a joyful freedom, and also paves the way for more joy from other conduits and avenues in life (for example, it's hard to enjoy the blessing of deep friendship if you know you are not being honest).

We all know the feeling of wanting relief without reflection. We want the pain to stop. We want life to get easier. And we quietly assume that hardship must mean God is distant or displeased.
But Scripture tells a different story. Hebrews reminds us that God disciplines not to crush us, but to heal us. Not to shame us, but to shape us. True repentance is not fear-driven or performative. It is a softening of the heart that turns back toward a loving Father. “The Lord disciplines the one he loves” (Hebrews 12).
This message invites us to see repentance as grace, not punishment. As an act of love in the middle of the war within our hearts. And it calls us to lift our eyes again to Jesus… to receive His loving discipline, walk together in community, and be transformed by a God who is always working for our good.
