In this sermon, Paul tells the church what they should now be doing in light of this glorious picture of Christ's majesty and humility. He says, "you're doing great...but keep going. Keep working." He says we should "work out" our salvation with fear and trembling. But if it is God who will complete the work, what work are we to be doing? God does not separate His will from His ways, and we are to not just trust His character and sovereignty, but also His commands and ways. How do we trust God's 100% sovereignty, while also seeing ourselves as 100% responsible?
