Jobey McGinty

Jobey was born and raised in the Los Angeles area until he was 14, when he moved with his family to Sioux City, Iowa. After graduating from High School there, he moved back to L.A., and within a few weeks, at the age of 18, he was caught off guard by the love and grace of God, and soon after enrolled in Bible College, eventually finding himself in full time ministry.
A musician from age 13, over the course of 11 years in pastoral ministry at their church, he primarily oversaw the music and creative arts at their church before transitioning into a teaching role in 2011. Then, in the Summer of 2011, the Lord began to stir in his heart a new desire to lead worship in a whole new way; not by playing his guitar and singing, but by leading a church family of believers into the life-changing promises of the Word of God. This led to Jobey and Katie eventually being sent out from their church to start Life Mission Church in Escondido on January 6, 2013.
Jobey and Katie have been married since 2001 and have two boys here, Micah Slane (born in ’04), and Liam Slane (born in ’07), and a third son, Charles Slane (born in ’01), in Zambia, Africa, whom they met at age 11. As a family, they love watching and playing baseball, they love making music (both the boys serve on the worship team), they love serving their church family, they love family road trips and travels, and they love enjoying the company of their friends.
Jobey continues to coach High School baseball at Escondido Charter High School even after coaching both of his sons from T-Ball through High School ball. He loves coaching and spending time with his own sons, as well as his sons’ friends. He and Katie host a Young Adult Group at their home, have frequently hosted and led various High School gatherings and bible studies, and they love encouraging marriages and parents to have truth-driven and heart-transforming approaches to their families and discipleship.
Their family is also actively involved with the church in Zambia, Africa, where Jobey visits frequently. He serves on the Board of Directors for Breath of Heaven, an orphan ministry in Zambia, Africa (where they first met Charles), as well as partnering with other teaching and discipleship opportunities in Zambia with an association of Reformed Baptist Churches and Bible Colleges. The family has sponsored children at BOH over the years, and in November 2025 celebrated Charles graduating from Law School. They have visited twice as a family and will be going again to celebrate Charles’ graduation in January 2026, taking Jobey’s Mom for the first time, as well.
